Cold drawn steel tube is a method of making seamless tube (smls). Its production process usually includes the following steps:

Step 1: Raw material preparation

The raw material of cold drawn steel tube is steel billet. A steel billet is a relatively large steel product, usually processed from a steel ingot or steel plate through a hot rolling process. When making cold drawn steel tubes, billets need to be dried first. This is to remove moisture and other impurities on the surface of the billet, so that the subsequent processing operations will be smoother.

Step 2: Heating

Billets are difficult to machine at room temperature, so they need to be heated first. Heating raises the temperature of the billet, making its material softer and easier to work with. The heating of the billet can be carried out in different ways, such as heating by electric furnace, natural gas, etc.

Step 3: Piercing

The heated billet needs to be perforated. This step is to extrude the center of the billet into a small circle, which will become the inner diameter of the seamless steel tube. Perforation can be done in different ways, for example by mechanical stretching, rolling, etc.

Step 4: Pulling

After the billet has been pierced, it needs to be drawn. Drawing is to elongate the billet along a certain direction and process it into the outer diameter of the seamless steel tube. Drawing requires multiple operations, each of which reduces the diameter of the steel pipe a little. After many times of drawing, the diameter and length of the steel pipe will reach the required size.

Step 5: Cut

The final step is to cut the formed seamless steel tube to the desired length. Severing can be performed with different tools, such as pliers, saw blades, etc.

Collectively, these steps constitute the manufacturing process of cold drawn steel tubes. The seamless steel tube produced by this process has the characteristics of smooth surface, precise size, high temperature resistance and high compressive strength, so it has been widely used in many fields.
